Alex Chambers - North Georgia Watercolor Folk Artist.

Alex Chambers loves to paint places the way they were.

Born in 1943, the Banks County, Georgia native grew up with a feel for rural landscapes, small towns, and local churches. The color of the North Georgia sky, the tough red clay landscapes, and the simplicity of childhood memories drive his folk/primitive style.

Many of the structures in his prints no longer exist. He works from both old photographs people supply to him and his own history of the areas portrayed. He believes in the places remembered and the simple country values that surround the time when “Cotton was King”. He fell in love with watercolors after he retired and now works exclusively with them.

Besides his stock in trade North Georgia churches and landscapes he loves to paint lighthouses. He is a Vietnam Vet and pulled 4 years in the Blue Water Navy and explains, “For a sailor, there is nothing more comforting than seeing the sweeping light from a lighthouse”.

In most of his work, he paints in a little red Cardinal after an admirer, who was enamored with an early painting of a male Cardinal, keep asking him where it was in his landscapes. It is this inclusive and sensitive nature of Alex’s to paint what and how people want to see…and remember.

All rustic framed prints are 22 1/2" x 18 1/2" - outside dimensions.

They are mounted with double acid free mats in buff with hunter green liner or hunter green with buff liner.
